Drivable Destinations

With Mardi Gras fast approaching and kids off school for the week, some may be looking to get out of New Orleans once the party is over on Fat Tuesday! There are many drivable destinations close to New Orleans that are great for families or anyon

e looking to get away.

Fairhope, AL is a two and a half hour drive from New Orleans, right over the Mobile bridge! There are many restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance of each other. Some of the best we have been to are Sunset Pointe at Fly Creek Marina, Sunflower Café, and Dragonfly. The Grand is a great hotel style option. There are restaurants and family-friendly activities on the premises so you don’t even have to leave if you don’t want to! There are also many Airbnbs in the area. My husband and I stayed in a family run bed and breakfast where the husband and wife made us breakfast and coffee every morning!

For a quick day trip, you could head east for a beach and live music filled day in Bay St. Louis, head north for a bike ride through Old Mandeville, or take a day trip west to Baton Rouge to meet Mike the Tiger and explore all the beauty LSU’s campus has to offer. There are children’s museums and family friendly restaurants in each city, making for a full day of fun!
